What car do you think was well ahead of it's time?
I'll Start: Mercedes W124 4Matic, more specifically the 4matic system in general. While Audi, AMC and Subaru were using AWD in everyday road cars, these were traditional mechanical systems. The only electronic AWD around was the porsche 959
Why?
Used the front differential mounted to the oil pan (Later found in Ford Cosworth cars and Nissan GT-R's) Used electro-hydraulic clutches to control power distribution to the front wheels (Later found in the GT-R) Used ABS speed sensors to control the whole thing (almost every traction control now does that) Uses electro-hydraulic controlled locking differentials (Later found in EVO's)
All of this in 1986. The only other place you could find this sort advanced technology in 1986 was the (then brand new for 1986) Porsche 959...and good luck if you got on the list for one of those.
