Alright lads, my thoughts had turned to the future and I have decided I don't want to work in clothing recycling forever. I've had an idea for a while now as a site has come up that would be ideal but before going forward with it I need to figure out earnings and so on. So! How much you fine gents be willing to pay for the use of a lift for an hour to work on your own car?

He said how much Zed, ya big dummy That's a tough question to answer Poss. What I'd do is survey a couple shops and try to get a feel for the average labour/hour charge is, and find a competitive price range from there (say... half or so? Maybe a bit more?)

It truly depends on location. Are there anybody who is local to the location you may be based in that offers similar services? If so, how much are they charging? Can you competitively go against that rate and still make enough profit?
I'd probably pay $30 an hour or so for use of a hoist.

My thoughts where around £25 per hour including tool rental. As far as I'm aware there are no similar services in the area, and the area the site is in has a high density of modified cars.

That sounds reasonable, $45 an hour including tools is something I'd go for.

Well, I'm thinking about special tools included, like the Torx bits, or the square oil sump plug socket for my Audi.

I'd just pay whatever... Provided its cheaper than a RubnTug joing.
Theres nothing local to me, that I know of so yeah... I'd just pay whatever's being asked.

I'd make sure you insure the fuck out of everything though, I can see people being incredibly light fingered when it comes to your tools if you have a garage/tools you're renting out. Make sure you're never liable if anything happens to their car in your workshop if they're working on it, or they fuck up safety wise and hurt themselves etc.
I've looked into it myself, there is a LOT of things you'd have to protect yourself and your property from. Wont even try and guess how many times a 12mm socket will go "missing" due to someone going "Well, he won't miss this." or "Ooops, I accidentally left this in my boot *wink* *wink*"

Just embed RFID tags on everything so an alarm goes off if they try to make off with it

As for anti thief I had just thought about making customers leave a divers license with myself or another member of staff that they would only have returned after tools where checked to make sure nothing had went walkies.

I just want to point out, this already exists in the states. I had lift time booked but had to cancel because i couldn't find a parts car to weld stuff onto my 300e from.

45 an hour is reasonable, with tool hire. I'd never pay that, of course, being in the industry and all I have access to free hoists and shit. But yeah, it's a great idea as I've already mentioned to you, and that kind of pricing is achievable for the average joe whilst being enough for you to actually afford to run the place.
